Is the new general data protection regulation of the European Union (GDPR) about to become effective? You must have heard about it, but please allow us to provide you with a short summary on the effects of GDPR on you as a client of Matusz-Vad.

Transparent data protection

Here at Matusz-Vad, we are working to provide more and more to our customers day by day. Processing the personal data provided by our clients is an essential part of this job. We are taking the protection of privacy very seriously, and we are dedicated to respect your personal data and privacy, because we have an interest in putting the emphasis on our clients when we do something. We would like to ensure you that your personal data are safe with us. We intend to be transparent for our clients, and we would also like to make sure that you understand how we use your personal data in order to provide you with a better and customizable customer experience. For this purpose, we will contact you again to inform you on our new data protection and cookie policy, and on the changes in our General Terms and Conditions (GTC) applicable for the most important services we provide to our customers. This ensures that we can remain in contact with you after 25 May 2018.

1. What is the legislative change about?

The new General Data Protection Regulation of the EU (hereinafter referred to as “GDPR”) becomes effective on 25 May 2018. It has been created to allow you to control better how businesses collect and use your personal data. The GDPR is an EU Regulation, so it is applicable for each organization within the EU (also including Matusz-Vad), and also for organizations processing the personal data of citizens of the European Union worldwide. A substantial part and result of this change is transparency, as you have to know how the information related to you are used, for example in cases when you wish to use our services, such as Matusz-Vad online store or online marketing communication (or receiving the newsletters of Matusz-Vad). The GDPR provides new rights to the data subjects, for example the right to data portability and the right to erasure. The right to data portability is a new right which allows everyone to transfer personal data from one organization to another within the EU. It is completely free of charge, which allows the customers to choose between service providers. It means the electronic forwarding of data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format, which will be also applied by Matusz-Vad. The right to erasure ensures that data subjects can request the erasure or destruction of their data in certain cases. However, this right is not absolute and it can be exercised only in certain cases, for example when the personal data are no longer necessary for the original purpose of collecting and processing them, or when the data processing was based on the consent of the individual which has been withdrawn later and it has no other legal basis. Your rights already provided by data protection law, such as the right to access and rectify your data, the right to restrict data processing and the right to object to data processing are preserved, you can exercise them after 25 May 2018.

2. How does Matusz-Vad Zrt ensures its own transparency?

Earlier, we have prescribed data protection rules in separate data protection and cookie policies in relation to the services provided to our customers. In certain cases (such as online shopping and marketing newsletters), the rules related to data protection and cookies are prescribed by the General Terms and Conditions. In order to make this more easy and simple for you, we have prepared a data protection and cookie policy edited in a single document, which provides you with information on how data protection is ensured and how do we process your personal data when you contact us or use a service provided by us. In other words, this single data protection and cookie policy provides you with all valuable and useful information related to data protection and privacy, regardless of whether you use and enjoy the benefits of Matusz-Vad Online Store, whether you order products by using our online shopping service and whether you have subscribed to the newsletter of Matusz-Vad, or you simply buy something from us sometimes. This policy provides you with simple information on how you can exercise your rights as a data subject. First and foremost, we intend to ensure that you understand clearly how we collect and use your personal data to provide you with more better and customized customer experience when you purchase something from Matusz-Vad. Our new data protection and cookie policy has been prepared in accordance with these objectives, in order to ensure that you understand clearly: •how do we combine your personal data collected during your personal and online store purchases to provide and send you services and marketing communication, including online advertisements, that we consider as the most interesting for you. How do we share your personal data with another companies within the Matusz-Vad Group.

3. What do you need to know about online shopping?

We have also reviewed and modified the conditions of online shopping to the extent required by the new requirements of the GDPR. As we have already mentioned, such modifications are explained in the new data protection and cookie policy. The new data protection and cookie policy, and the modified GDC of online shopping, becomes effective on 1 May 2018. We would like to provide you with enough time to understand the new rules before they become effective.

4. What changes are expected in the marketing communication of Matusz-Vad (email & SMS)?

If you have already shown interest in marketing communication sent by using electronic devices (such as email or SMS), you will continue to receive them, unless you wish to cancel your subscription to them. We respect your decision, so you can decide that you no longer wish to receive marketing communication from us anytime. In our message, which will be sent to you soon, you will find a special link for cancelling your subscription, which can be used if you wish to cancel your subscription to our electronic newsletter.
